What to Know about Quartz Countertops

Quartz Countertops Revealed

Quartz Countertops are beautiful additions to your remodeled kitchen, offering visual texture and character to the most popular space in your home. Quartz is a great option because it's durable and inexpensive compared to other countertop options. Don’t want to pay for a marble countertop? Try a faux-marble option made from quartz.

What is Quartz Made of?

Quartz is a mix of different materials like glass, polymers and resins. These mixtures help it achieve different looks that allow it to work well with any cabinets or kitchen features. It’s also anti-bacterial, non-absorbent and nonporous, which makes it stain resistant. Spilling red wine or coffee isn’t going to lead to long-lasting stains if you clean them up quickly. That said, don’t let stains linger too long. Quartz can still stain if left untreated.

Caring for a Quartz Countertop

If you do run into stains on your quartz countertops, a simple solution with warm water and a small amount of dishwashing liquid should do the trick. Wipe up the stain with your solution, then wipe over the area again with water. For tougher stains, use isopropyl alcohol and water. We also recommend using a microfiber cloth for a deeper clean.

Avoid abrasive household cleaners. We like to think quartz is indestructible, but harsh chemicals from substances like alkaline or acidic solutions, nail polish and bleach can lead to scrapes and scratches. Similarly, avoid chopping meat directly on the countertop. Always use cutting boards.

Quartz does not respond well to high temperatures. It is as heat resistant as granite, but it is always good to use a hot pad when you set pots and skillets aside. Placing pans above 150 degrees directly on quartz risks damaging the resins and causing permanent scarring.
