How to Clean your Kitchen and Bathroom Cabinets

In your bathrooms and kitchens, streaked and sticky cabinets are actually signs of exclusive cleaning challenges. However, in order to keep your cabinets clean and free from streaks you actually need to apply the right techniques to clean the cabinets in your bathrooms and kitchen. Here, are some of the ideal ways of cleaning your cabinets and making them look their best.

Cabinet Basics

Kitchen and bathroom cabinets are prone to being sticky and soiled due to some simple reasons. Cosmetics, lotions, food particles and cooking oils are transferred from our hands to cabinet doors and handles. Moreover, in the kitchen, flying cooking oil can actually make the cabinets sticky and hard to clean. Most industrial-made cabinets, including those made of wood, are coated using enough varnish to make it much easier when cleaning. The problem is that most everyday cleaners are no match for the greasy messes, which normally build up on cabinet handles and doors.

Cleaning Non-Wood Cabinets

If your cabinets are not made of wood such as glass, painted metal, metal and Formica cabinets, a stronger cleaner is the best to use. You can buy a durable alkaline cleaner. However, you should never use powdered cleaners or any kind of an acid on cabinets. Blend this with a cleansing product in accordance to the products directions and then apply it to the cabinets using a soft cloth or sponge. Let the solution set on the surface for several minutes, then scrub gently using a nylon-backed sponge. Rinse the whole cabinet using a damp cloth and dry instantly using a terrycloth towel.

Cleaning Wood Cabinets

Wood cabinets normally need a gentler approach. Eliminating the oily sticky stains around the handles can be difficult. However, you can easily accomplish this duty by using a gentle, oil-cutting dish cleaning detergent. Once these stains and dirt are eliminated, apply an oil soap solution to clean the whole face cabinet. Just use light strokes and less solution to avoid wood saturation. Then dry immediately using a terrycloth towel.

Maintaining the Appearance

Once you are through with your cleanliness, you can maintain your clean cabinets very easy. For plastic, glass or metal cabinets, keep a can of all-purpose cleaner handy and always remember to speck clean heavy use areas. If your cabinets are made of wood, use a gentle solution to wipe clean once you have finished cooking or once when there is a lot of dirt in the bathroom.    Unless those wood cabinets have become dull, you should not apply wood polish as a way of keeping them glowing. If they have simply lost a bit of their luster, you can polish them annually, in order to fill in pores and reinstate the shine. For all kinds of cabinets, deep cleaning must be done probably every year. However, prior to following any of these cleaning techniques, advices or suggestions, it is always advisable to consult an expert for improved instructions and caution.
